Downtown St. Louis has become the city’s most rapidly growing neighborhood and a center for regional development and investment. RAC, DSI and Explore St. Louis partnered and commissioned Via Partnership to create a vision and path forward to enable public art to capitalize and expand on this growth.
Via worked with the client partners, downtown residents, workers, visitors, organizations, elected officials, developers and businesses within the Downtown community in the yearlong process of creating the Downtown St. Louis Public Art Plan. The Plan synthesizes and organizes the ideas, priorities and recommendations of stakeholders, including practical strategies for how to use public art as a tool in the ongoing resurgence of Downtown. The Plan recommends the creation of a Downtown Public Art Initiative to commission, guide, and partner on future public art projects. The Plan also highlights the types of projects that should be prioritized by the Initiative including those that encourage exploration, highlight Downtown as an area of creativity and possibility, share the stories and identity of the community, and welcome people to Downtown.
Via Partnership has continued to partner with Regional Arts Commission to assist in the launching and creation of the Downtown Public Art Initiative and to guide the new organization through its inaugural project and first year of work.
