Barkley Regional Airport in Paducah, Kentucky is home to three works of art commissioned from artists from across the region. The works are varied in style and approach but together create a collection that expresses a strong sense of place and communicates that Paducah is home to a vibrant arts community.
Via worked with Barkley’s art committee and airport staff to develop a project plan and determine locations, eligibility requirements, goals, selection processes, and budgets for the three artworks. We then crafted a call to artists, hosted application workshops for interested artists, and managed the artist selection process.
The three site-specific artworks – Flight Pattern, a glass mosaic by Guy Kemper; Angles Garden, a digital drawing on window film by Nikki May; and Organized Chaos, a digital photograph collage print on wall fabric by Russel Bash – beautifully and boldly achieve the airport’s goals of providing an impactful welcome to the Paducah region, highlighting the region’s art and culture, and generating community pride.
