center of clayton public art commission

Alice Aycock’s sculpture The Uncertainty of Ground State Fluctuations at the entrance to the Center of Clayton captures the dynamic energy of the multi-purpose recreation center where it is sited. The piece has become a beacon in the community welcoming users to one of the City’s most popular facilities. Growing out of our earlier work with the Clayton Art Commission developing a public art plan for the City, Via worked with co-consultant Michael Dunbar to design and facilitate a selection process for this landmark piece. We managed an invitational call for artists, which included display of maquettes for a public comment period and resulted in the selection of internationally known artist Alice Aycock. We worked with the Clayton Art Commission to implement a fundraising strategy, coordinated programming and educational activities with Clayton High School, which shares use of the facility, and brought on a media consultant to develop a public relations strategy. We also organized opening events to celebrate the unveiling of this major artwork, including a dedication and artist lecture.
