works on water

Works On Water (WoW) is an artist-driven organization founded in 2016 to cultivate and nourish a community of artists working on, in and with bodies of water. WoW artists work with water as site, material, and collaborator in response to the urgency of a changing climate, increasing urban density, and a burgeoning public awareness of ecological concerns.

In 2017, Via worked on production and management of WoW’s inaugural triennial, including commissioning 10 temporary public installations at 3LD Art & Technology Center in Lower Manhattan and 10 “field works” throughout New York City. From 2018 – 2021, we helped to facilitate artist selection for a series of artist residencies on Governors Island, which hosted over 100 artists in short-term residencies incubating diverse investigations of water in the urban environment.

We also helped curate WoW’s second triennial exhibition, which became a durational three-year (2020 – 2022) exhibition due to the pandemic. We continue to work in an on-going capacity as a member of the organization’s curatorial team, providing support in the development of the Water Map and planning for WoW’s 2025 triennial.
